X Men Marvel Original Collectors Edition- Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman and Angel

This figure set to be of great interest in that it presents the grossly overlooked original team - the BEST X-Men team ever! As far as I know this is the only action figure set ever made available of the classic original team of the 1960s as created by Jack Kirby and scripted by Stan Lee. The set has many pluses including the size of the figures, Angel's wings (which are quite large), the Beast's grossly enlarged hands and feet (true to Kirby's concept), Cyclops moveable visor and glowing red eyes (if a light source is provided), and Ice-Man's coloring which is very effective and looks cold! The big downside is the very ugly and awkward nature of the sculpting. The figures are very crudely sculpted with grotesque and unnatural looking musculature and figuration. This is a shame and could have easily been avoided. There are many highly skilled sculptors working in the field of collectible toys and figures and a much more realistic figure concept could have been arrived at. This would even have increased the desirability of the set as one takes into account the fact that children do not care if an action looks real or not - but most adult collectors do! To have put forth the extra care to arrive at realistic figure design would not have altered the sets value to kids one way or the other, but would have greatly increased it's overall merit and value for adults. Someone really messed up by allowing this great set to be marred by crude sculpting. Maybe another toy company will do a better job of it in the future. I certainly hope so!
