War World: The Battle of Sauron (War World)
War World is a future warfare series created by John F. Carr and Jerry Pournelle inspired by the works of H. Beam Piper. The War World volumes include five original short story collections, two novels and are part of Pournelles CoDominium and Empire of Man Future History, spanning several thousand years. War World takes place on a barely-habitable moon named Haven, or War World as it becomes known. Haven is a hard scrabble world of extreme temperatures, hard radiation, deadly flora and fauna, wastelands and breeds the toughest denizens in human occupied space.
"For those of you unfamiliar with the War World series, this volume would be an ideal introduction, since it chronicles the arrival of the Sauron invaders on Haven, a barely habitable moon of a Jovian planet Cat's Eye. It's a space adventure in the mold of H. Beam Piper's work and based on an idea developed by myself and Jerry Pournelle." - John F. Carr
The new novel, "War World: The Battle of Sauron" takes place in the waning days of the First Empire of Man, a future history inspired by Piper's own Terro-Human Future History.
Portions of this novel first appeared in War World Vol. I : The Burning Eye and War World Vol. II : Death's Head Rebellion, edited by Jerry E. Pournelle and John F. Carr, published by Baen Books in 1988 and 1989
