Victron BMV-702 Battery Monitor
The Victron Battery monitor BMV-702 is a high precision battery monitor with a fuel gauge type of display with midpoint voltage monitoring technology (see below). The essential function of a battery monitor is to calculate ampere-hours consumed and the condition of the charge of the battery. Ampere-hours consumed are calculated by integrating the current flowing in or out of the battery. One of the main advantages of the BMV702 is the ability to program up the unit to measure the voltage and temperature of a second battery. The installation can be easily done by someone with electrical experience. All electrical connections go to the quick connect PCB on the current shunt. The shunt then connects to the the monitor with a standard RJ12 telephone cable. Midpoint Voltage Monitoring Technology: This features is used in large complex battery systems which comes at a high cost, but the BMV700 has made this high tech feature much more economical. Battery banks are designed with a series of connected cells, the midpoint voltage is the voltage halfway along this series. Practically the midpoint voltage should be half of the total voltage, however in reality this is never the case due to the various conditions of batteries, such as new batteries, different temperatures, internal leakage currents, various capacity and much more. However this Midpoint Voltage Monitoring allows the system to detect a large or increasing change of the midpoint voltage which can activate an alarm to notify you that something is wrong with the battery system and therefore prevent having a major long term issue. iOS and Android Compatible - Optional Extra Using the VE.Direct to Bluetooth Smart dongle you can display your BMV or MPPT information on iOS and Android devices, using the VictronConnect app. View information wirelessly such as battery status and solar panel power, plus other useful data.
