Vast Oceans Lachrymose
Since 1989, While Heaven Wept have not only contributed to the very definition of Epic Doom Metal, but with each release have continued to push the boundaries of the genre and in fact have developed a sound uniquely their own; incorporating elements of Baroque, Romantic, 20th century Classical, Cosmic Music, Dark Progressive, Darkwave, Doom, and various styles of metal their sound is very distinctive, very different, yet strangely familiar. With 2009's "Vast Oceans Lachrymose," While Heaven Wept offer their most diverse release to date, containing all of the hallmarks of the "WHW sound" but the songs are far more progressive and aggressive than anything they've released previously. Clearly a natural evolution from their critically acclaimed 2003 album "Of Empires Forlorn," it is obvious WHW have no intention of stagnating musically nor playing music that isn't anything less than sincere - no Doom for the sake of Doom here.
