Turnip-Family
The story: A traditional Russian fairy tale story of cooperation; one that is a favored motif in children's books. A father wishes to pull a turnip from the frozen ground of his garden so he can make a soup. Try as he might, he cannot do so. He calls his wife for help, and she does her best, but the two of them do not succeed. In turn, the help of their daughter, family dog, and cat, is solicited, but they do not succeed either. Finally, a mouse, the smallest of them all, pitches in-and by working together, the turnip is pulled free. The doll: The largest doll features the father and the turnip (the mouse that ultimately resolves everything is featured below the turnip). The mother, holding the pot in which the soup is to be made, is represented on the fourth doll. The third is the daughter, then the dog and finally the cat, as the smallest doll. Just over three and a half inches tall. Hand lathed and hand painted in Belarus. Only top level and lead-free paints used. Please note: Nesting dolls are designed to be easy to open-but also to hold together well. You don't open it by twisting it. Instead "pop it open by holding the doll in your hands and bending the two halves outward.
