Timepeace
Time Peace from 1997 was singer-songwriter Terry Callier's first studio recording in almost 17 years. The Chicago-based Callier is an urban folk-jazz artist whose first album was recorded in 1964. He also had success as a songwriter with the Dells, who scored a hit with his song, "The Love We Had Stays on My Mind." On this album, Callier's voice reveals great depth while several of Chicago's finest musicians (particularly Eric Hochberg on bass) provide a stirring and seductive backdrop. This powerful recording also features the tenor saxophone of legendary jazzman Pharoah Sanders. Evocative songs like "Lazarus Man" and "Coyote Moon" are mature compositions from this veteran folk troubadour. Callier's lucid storytelling and rich, dark voice make Time Peace a compelling comeback effort. --Mitch Myers
