Parachute cord is a lightweight nylon cord used in the suspension lines of US parachutes during World War II. Soldiers found this cord to be very useful for many needs. The all-nylon construction makes parachute cord weather and fade resistant. While the military has no overall diameter requirements most cord typically measures about 3mm to 4mm in diameter. In an emergency you could use the parachute cord for many life saving applications. It could be used to help build a shelter or raft.
