Her knack for detailed, intricate description brings the reader rignt into the traditional African cultural world of a man named Jimi, who is from Emure Ile, a village near Owo, a town in Ondo State region of Yorubaland, Nigeria. Jimi resides in America and returns home to marry Ronke, his childhood sweetheart. Ronke, a young school teacher, has one or two tricks up her sleeve until she was confronted by an African ritual, the cobra snake and an umbilical cord engaging its spiritual significance.
Once a reader starts to read The Rituals, he/she might be unable to put it down until the last word is read. The action throughout the book consistently pushes the story further. The story is richly embedded with suspense, drama and vivid details of traditional Yoruba life.
