The Piper's Book of Wisdom

The Piper’s Book of Wisdom consists of several biblical collections—(1) Proverbs (2) Song of Songs (3) Ecclesiastes—rewritten for gay men (“Daddies”) and the “sons” who love them. Lee’s prose poems combine sacred scripture, wisdom gleaned from social media, and lifelong learning.

Love. Honor. Discipline. These are the watchwords of the Dad/son and BD/SM communities and the basis of devotional poetry used to celebrate “manly love” and mutuality between male lovers involved in adult intergenerational romance.

Similar to the biblical books on which these poems are based, familial terms are used to designate the beloved and not biological relationships. At a time when most states ban same sex marriage, these poems use the closest language available to profess sincere bonds between men, that of familial male units—fathers, sons, and brothers.
