The Leonardo Trait: How Creative People Can Turn Creative Eccentricity into a Life You Love
Have You Ever Been Rejected Because You Were “Too Creative†and People Thought You Were Crazy?
If you have, you know exactly what I mean. It’s happened to me more times than I can count.
The last time I got pushed away for being too creative, I had volunteered to help a dog rescue with publicity. In one day I came up with 15 free or very low cost, powerful, effective and actionable ideas, and created an action plan for each of them, in one day.
The owner of the rescue didn’t think I was brilliant or helpful or just the right addition to the team.
She thought I was crazy.
She first said I was “getting carried away†and then demanded that I never contact her again because she didn’t want to “get involved with someone like†me.
That’s the last time I faced something like that. It’s also the last time I ever did or ever will let someone else’s reaction to me dictate how I feel about myself.
Today, I know that how someone else feels about me is their problem, not mine.
I’m proud of my creativity and I know its power.
But it may not be like that for you, and it wasn’t always like that for me.
After the dog rescue incident, I squelched my creative personality for over a year. I did what I thought “normal†people did. I tried to hide my creativity and my eccentricity. I acted like I thought I should, not like who I was.
That changed when I discovered the concept of the Leonardo Trait.
Deeply creative people, Leonardos, are deeply and inherently creative and have multiple passions and boundless energy—except when we run out of energy and we have to recharge. We’re completely unable to happily focus on one thing at a time, and we’re insatiably curious.
Once I uncovered this truth about myself, I finally became the person I really am.
I’ve written three editions of
The Leonardo Trait to help other creative people become more of who they are.
My deep motivation is that
when I get in front of the right people and
they read the book or I tell them about it, I see an instant transformation.
Without fail, they immediately refer to themselves as Leonardos.
They talk about how it feels to know that someone else does 15 things remarkably well.
They talk about passion and multiple passions and projects and
connections and ideas.
And I see them really know for the first time in their lives that
there is nothing wrong with them.
That’s what
The Leonardo Trait is about. That’s what it does.
