The Historical Nevada Magazine
In January, 1936 the first issue of Nevada Magazine, then oiled Nevada Highs and Parks, was published. Americans had discovered the automobile and the thrill of driving open roads but few knew that Nevada had 2,100 miles of surfaced roads. A new magazine was born to "serve a useful purpose in disseminating facts and news about Nevada's highways and parks, its abundant natural scenic places, and perhaps promote a wider knowledge of its mountains, deserts, and the real western, friendly spirit of its people".
Today's Nevada Magazine has full color photos, stories that were once off-limits, and ads but in important ways it hasn't changed. The stories and photos still highlight the state's history, culture, and landscape and, occasionally, highways. This collection of eighteen stories represents the kind of colorful features that have appeared in Nevada Magazine over the past sixty years.
