The Empire Within: Book III of the Irredente Chronicles (Complete): Parts 1-3
THIS IS BOOK III COMPLETE, in 3 parts.
Part 1, subtitled "The Battle of Innisfree," sees the orphaned, grievously wounded, genovariant boy Henryk Burgred on ruined Innisfree, where he will finally be thrown in with the fallen-and-redeemed priest Hersey and other characters just as the Irredentist fascist regime gathers its forces to attack. Henryk, an unlikely hero, finds new allies and communes with a lonely planetary system intelligence in his fight to save a sad, abused world.
Part 2, subtitled "The Voyage Within," sees Henryk, Burgred, and Auspex Heretic I all return to Constantin, the intellectual center of the Reorganized Hegemony and its new religion of tolerance, procreation, and diaspora. Things don't go as planned, however. Burgred must help Henryk flee Constantin after Henryk inadvertently brings down the system of trade in an innocent marketplace deal. The Heretic, forlorn on Constantin, is compelled to join the renegades and take frigate Andromache as his Auspicial Yacht, appointing Henryk as her commander. Together, the three launch return voyages to places from their complex, interrelated pasts: O-Ring, Xy, and Mediant.
In Part 3, Henryk Burgred sets out on a final voyage of discovery, ruin, and transfiguration, while Burgred and the Heretic play their parts in saving the occupied worlds from the existential threat of the Locu emanating from a place farther away than anyone ever dreamed.
