The Destroyer Captain
Jason St. Clair is a most unpleasant man, not only in personality but in appearance. In desperation, his family enter him for the Royal naval College at Dartmouth at the tender age of thirteen. Much to everyone’s surprise he not only passes the interview and the medical but the long written exam.
He soon becomes disliked by his fellow Cadets and his Officers. For his own part he discovers that, as well as being disliked, he is also a coward. He thus disguises his cowardice and his personality by acting the overbearing bully and avoiding, as far as possible, any activity where his cowardice could be noticed.
This is the story of Jason St. Clair, “The Pig of Pigsâ€, so named by his crew. About his journey through the ranks of the Royal Navy during the combat actions of the Second World War, the trials he faces in hiding his crippling cowardice and how in many ways he surprises himself and his comrades.
