New possibilities with IPS e.max CAD lithium disilicate glass-ceramics
Overview of the technical processing:
The tried-and-tested IPS e.max CAD lithium disilicate glassceramic can now also be used for zirconium oxide-based posterior bridges, thanks to the IPS e.max CAD-on technique. Michael Spiegel shows the ease of use, efficiency, strength and esthetics that can be achieved with the new CAD-on bridge generation.
The IPS e.max CAD lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (LS2) combines high strength (360 MPa) with outstanding esthetics in the production of durable all-ceramic restorations. Given the improved milling behaviour, this ceramic is milled in a "soft" intermediate state, when the material shows its characteristic and striking bluish colour. Upon completion of the milling process, a simple and efficient stains and crystallization firing is conducted, during which the IPS e.max CAD material obtains its final strength of 360 MPa and the desired esthetic properties such as tooth shade, translucency and brightness. So far, IPS e.max CAD has been successfully used in the fabrication of highly esthetic monolithic crowns (Figure 1).
The new IPS e.max CAD-on technique combines the advantages of lithium disilicate glass-ceramics (LS2) with those of zirconium oxide (ZrO2) in an innovative way and takes the fabrication of tooth- or implant-borne posterior bridge restorations to a new level. The IPS e.max CAD-on technique offers a new generation of bridge technology, which is unmatched in terms of user friendliness, efficiency, strength and esthetics.
