Telefunken AK-47mkII STEREO SET | Tube Condensor Microphone Stereo Set
The R-F-T AK-47 MkII began as a unique design to incorporate key elements of classic circuits such as the U47 and M49. These design decisions created a microphone with a wonderfully rich and warm low-mid frequency response ideal for vocals, bass (acoustic and electric), brass instruments, and drums. With these applications in mind, TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik has developed the AK-47 MkII Stereo Set.
The matched Stereo Set comes in a custom locking flight case that carries both cables, shockmounts, microphones, wooden boxes, and an American-made dual-channel power supply unit. This newly designed power supply is fully regulated and will power one or both microphones simultaneously, and features a slow-ramping heater voltage to ensure vacuum tube longevity.
As mentioned, the amplifier of the AK-47 MkII draws inspiration from its predecessors. The design incorporates a New Old Stock (NOS) EF732 / 5840W vacuum tube and custom-made BV8 output transformer, recreated from the ground up with specs and datasheets from the original BV8 found in the U47. The circuitry is based off of the M49, coupled with a dual-membrane TK67D capsule configured for variable 9-polar pattern functionality. Each of these components is rigorously tested in our laboratory prior to installation, and hand-selected for matched pairs. The capsules have matched frequency responses, the tubes have matched gain and noise specs, and the amplifier circuits have matched gain and frequency response.
