"Two of our guests have come up with a contest. They've asked me to select a servant for each of them. Maya, you will be under the care of Dr. Tryon. Eve, you'll be with Dr. Scarlatti. Each of them will be training you for a show tomorrow night. I understand they have a substantial wager riding on the outcome, so expect them to be a bit...intense."

I felt the thrill of an impending competition. I've been a tomboy my whole life and my idiot brothers always made me feel like I had to prove myself. So if I am involved in something, I give it my all, and I intend to win. Softball, field hockey, even basketball. Oh, they laughed when I came onto the court, but I was fast and nimble. No one could get the ball from me. Here in the Barn, I've had to make my own contests. Usually, the other servants don't' even know they're competing, but I know it."

Eve never felt like she really fit in with the other servants of the Hartly Barn. She didn't understand their need to truly submit. But when she's given to dark, mysterious Dr. Scarlatti to train for a contest, her ability to retain control is tested to the breaking point. She can take anything except denial of pleasure.
