Suspended Between
Julya’s screams echo through the metal of the starship. A simple number has destroyed all hopes she had for her life.
101.
Dax answers her question with the number. He is the only one who could answer. The other 4,094 colonists lay in deep suspension. They are some of Earth’s best, heading to colonize a new world, on a 200-year journey through space.
Dax is an engineer. He explains the technical details of the accident that caused them to revive too early. He talks at length on the science behind why they cannot be suspended again.
Julya is an artist. She cares little for his talk of light years and the ship’s maximum velocity.
She interrupts and asks a simple question. How long until we reach the planet?
Dax doesn’t know how to deal with people, especially women. He tries to break it to her gently, but he fails. After stammering to find the right words, he simply gives the data she requested.
101 years.
Julya must discover the answer to three questions. How can she survive on a starship that wasn’t designed to be inhabited for a lifetime? How can she love a man she would never have chosen? And how can she deal with the hidden truth that awaits her?
