Sterling Silver Luckenbooth Pendant Scottish Love Charm
One of the most romantic of Scottish symbols since the 1700's, Luckenbooth pendants traditionally feature a pair of intertwined hearts surrounding a Scottish thistle and the crown of Mary, Queen of Scots. The name comes from their sale from the Luckenbooths or "locked booths", small stalls at the green of the St. Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. This style of pendant has a long and romantic history and was traditionally exchanged between lovers at the time of betrothal. They would then be pinned to their infant's blanket or shawl to guard the baby from the curse of evil spirits or the sithean (fairy spirits). This sterling silver Luckenbooth pendant is one inch tall, 5/8 of an inch wide, with beautiful workmanship and wonderful detail. It can be used either as a necklace pendant or a charm for a bracelet. The bail can fit a necklace up to 3mm thick.
