Stan Kenton Conducts the Berlin Dream Band
This 'live' concert from 1969 played a pivotal part in the late career of the great Stan Kenton. The reaction of the audience who were expecting a more avant-garde performance was to say the least disapointing and latterly caused Stan to create the new 1970's band with a brand new 'book'. Nevertheless the music on this disc is interesting due to the unusual line-up of the band, most being European musicians. The fact that they sensed that the audience was not going to give plaudits to who could play the coolest, the soloists reach out as far as they are able, and the rhythm section rocks with an unrestrained swing. Reuben never sounded so sprightly, and those featured on Young Blood make sure the title lives up to its name.
