This report summarizes the developments in radiation science in the years leading up to the new millennium, drawn on the main conclusion of the scientific assessments of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effect of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR). This Volume I comprises of scientific annexes aimed at the general scientific community, specifically presents findings on: the dose assessment methodologies, the natural radiation exposure, the man-made environmental exposure, the medical radiation exposure, and the occupational radiation exposure. The publication is a unique scientific basis for estimating radiation risk, establishing radiation protection and safety standards and regulating radiation sources, for governments and organizations throughout the world.
