These Shimano XTR Trail (F01A) Resin Disc Brake Pads have aluminum backing plates for the pad material. This makes them as light as possible while also allowing the greatest amount of heat transfer to the radiator fins that protrude from the open top of the caliper. The Resin Pad compound offers better modulation, is quieter, and tends to squeal less than the Metallic Pads, although they tend to wear a bit quicker and don't have quite as much ultimate stopping power.
