Shimano Dura-Ace PD-9000 SPD-SL Pedals
While other component manufacturers have jumped excitedly on the carbon fiber bandwagon, Shimano has remained committed to the use of metals in its components, only utilizing carbon where it felt the material offered a distinct benefit. Given the carbon composite body in the new Dura-Ace PD-9000 pedals, we'd have to say that Shimano found carbon a fitting substitute for its long-tenured alloy designs. The biggest difference in this iteration is the cleat and how it interacts with the pedal. Dubbed the SMH-12, the cleat provides just one degree of float. Now, that's certainly not much, but if your bike fit is as it should be, it will keep your leg in perfect alignment, and minimize strain on your knees and muscles.
