It's 1914, the eve of the Great War. After a lengthy absence Holmes returns to Baker St. But, what has happened to bring about the shocking condition he was in? What strange adventure has reduced him to such an appalling state? Can Dr. Watson bring him back? Gone in the fog.
Excerpts:
"It is with great reluctance that I take up my pen to record the following tale, for in so doing I must relive the most harrowing experience of my life. Nothing has ever so devastated me as the matter I am about to unfold. In retrospect the events encroach upon my memory like some hideous nightmare, leaving me feeling quite distraught. I am referring to the dreadful tragedy that befell my dear friend Mr. Sherlock Holmes...."
"Then came that terrible evening, the moment that initiated the most horrific time of my life, the moment when the real nightmare truly began. Had I known what was to ensue, I would have gone with him. Nothing would have stopped me. For unbeknownst to me at that moment, when Sherlock Holmes stepped out of the front door of 221-b Baker Street, he disappeared into the snow covered, fog laden night. It seemed as if he had been taken up by the drifting fog and carried off. He had simply vanished! Gone in the fog."
This is the second edition of the novel.
