SHATTERED BLUE Excerpts
From Chapter 3:
Shane was almost at the door, his name in her throat, when Matt shoved it open and stepped inside. His face was etched with anger or hurt, she couldn't tell which. Maybe both. She stopped where she was and they stared at each other.Â
"Were you going to lock me out?" he said, his voice a husky growl.
Shane shook her head. She didn't trust her voice, knew she was about to dissolve into tears.
"I couldn't leave you like that, Shane. You have to believe me, I didn't--"
She went to him, wrapped her arms around him and held on tight.Â
"I know," she said. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."Â
He threw his arms around her. "Shane," he breathed against her hair, "I'd never do anything to hurt you. You know that, don't you?"
She nodded against his chest and let the tears come.
Matt held Shane while she wept, his mind and heart in turmoil. He was sure of only two things. The first was that this beautiful woman in his arms--this woman he hardly knew, and yet knew to the depths of her soul--was about to massively complicate his life. And the second? She was worth every bit of it....
From Chapter 25:
She didn't know Matt had followed her until he grabbed her shoulder, halting her headlong rush to nowhere. He turned her into his arms, pulled her against his chest, crushed her mouth in a searing kiss.Â
"Shane," he said when he raised his head from hers. "I love you. I love you."
Her heart opened and the wall inside her trembled as she clung to him. "Burn me up, Matt," she said, her voice a ragged whisper. "Burn it away. Please, please, burn it all away."
She heard him growl deep in his throat and he lifted her into his arms in one swift movement.Â
As he carried her back across the parking lot and through the door of her room, she rained kisses on his neck and the hard line of his jaw. His skin was warm and damp and tasted of salt and desire....
Jane Taylor Starwood loves writing sexy romantic thrillers featuring strong but emotionally wounded heroines and strong heroes who aren't afraid to be tender. They may start out at odds, but they end up deeply in love and looking toward a wonderful future together. Always a happy ending!Â
