Shanghai yeast balls are a type of brewer's yeast to make fermented rice wine. Known as "jiuqu" in Chinese or "pang khao mahk" in Thai language, each yeast ball is enough to turn 250-500g glutinous rice (a.k.a. sweet rice or sticky rice) into Lao Zao or Khao Mahk.
