Interview with the Author
Q - How did you “open a fresh new world of urban fantasyA - It’s a combination of archaeological research I’d been doing and then a matter of updating shamanism with modern technology. It wasn’t my intent, but I bent the urban fantasy genre. The techno-shaman series has been described as a mystery, a thriller, science fiction, and even metaphysical. It’s a combination of all these because I enjoy action, a fast pace, and building suspense. At its heart though, it’s the story of a young woman on a journey. Her struggles and growth fuel the series.
Q - What has surprised you most in writing these books?A - Readers! Writing is a solitary effort, which I adore. But hearing from readers and reviewers has been amazing. Their insights into the characters and the stories can be incredibly deep. I’ve also really enjoyed “chatting†with readers via email and social media. There’s even been fan art! The fantasy and science fiction readers who’ve embraced the novels have been more kind and generous than I could have imagined.
Q - What was the inspiration behind this second book in the Olivia Lawson Techno-Shaman series?A - I wanted to go all dark. :) This second novel in Livvy’s arc was a chance for me to reveal something of her beginnings. Despite the fantasy and non-stop action, it’s more of a story that dives inward, into the core of the characters and what defines them. In fact, despite the critical acclaim of the first novel, this second one continues to be a reader favorite. I need to go all dark more often.
