Shake
Until now there has been a gap in the story of garage-meisters The Shadows Of Knight... but no more! At the end of 1967, having cut their most monstrous singles, I Wanna Make You Mine and Someone Like You , they seemed to take a hiatus. This was due to the collapse of their label, Dunwich, after which the band made the most unlikely of moves, to the home of bubblegum, Super K Productions! Straight away, they came up with the breakbeat-tastic single Shake! and a couple of mighty follow-ups including the stupendous My Fire Department Needs A Fireman . Their next, self-titled, album didn't appear until the end of 1968. A rough-hewn slice of proto-grunge with weird bubblegum trimmings, it faded into obscurity... until now! With its creditable version of Buffalo Springfield's Bluebird and the burning Back Door Man , a number which was in their live set from day one, this is an artifact long due for rediscovery. Presented here with its attendant singles, this is an amazing missing link between garage and heavy rock, stuffed with great songs and performances. Beautifully re-mastered by Norman Blake at Studio 3 and expanded with rare single sides! A must for all fans of this essential garage band and lovers of bubblegum, heavy rock and guitar-drenched psychedelia!
