The stories Jory has selected for Shadows of Yesteryear exhibit his mastery of the short form--the greatest challenge in prose--as well as his abiding knowledge of and affection for the American West. Some of the people he writes about, like Tom Horn, Jim Bowie, and Chief Bigfoot, walked the West, stamping their heels so deep in bedrock the prints may still be seen; others are creations of his own, but although they go by other names here, they, too, once lived, only to be forgotten with their clay.
