Scientific Industries SI-0401 MicroPlate Genie Mixer, without Plug, 230V
The Scientific Industries SI-0401 Microplate Genie Mixer is a vortex mixer (shaker) with variable speed of 750 to 2,700rpm for gentle shaking to rapid vortexing of a single microplate, and can be operated in continuous mode or for timed operation from 1 to 60 minutes. This mixer accepts one microplate of almost any type with a standard Society for Biomolecular Screening (SBS) footprint to provide uniform mixing even in 384-well plates. An accessory kit (sold separately) is available to accept a holder for a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) plate. The mixer has a built-in fan that directs air downward and out of the unit to keep heat from transferring to samples. It can be used in cold rooms or incubators for temperature-sensitive applications, and has European Conformity (CE) marking. Vortex shakers are commonly used in laboratories to mix liquids.

Vortex shakers mix small amounts of liquid in laboratory containers for biochemical, microbiological, and other applications. A vortex shaker can be analog or digital and is commonly an automated, electrically powered, benchtop unit with a base that holds a rubber cup or a platform that spins off center. The user places a test tube, beaker, or other small vessel of liquid onto the spinning cup or platform, creating a vortex to mix the liquid. Some models can hold multiple containers, often by an accessory attached to the base. Additional features may include fixed or variable speeds, touch or hands-free operation, and various voltages.
Scientific Industries manufactures laboratory equipment such as shakers and mixers, homogenizers, and incubators under the Vortex-Genie and Genie brands. The company, founded in 1954, is headquartered in Bohemia, NY.
