The bald eagle, the national bird of the United States of America is usually found near open bodies of water (due to the abundant supply of food) and old-growth forest. Fish represent its primary source of food. It prefers to nest in high, old-growth trees. These large birds can grow up to one metre long, have a wingspan of 2.40m and weigh 7 kg. Interestingly, the females are generally much larger than the males. Eagles usually live to around twenty years and migrate when the water freezes. These birds mate for life and raise their young together.
