Salewa: Battle For The Crown: A Saga of Intense Female Rivalry

Ukay just would not wear the crown. As for herself, she did not really care if she won or not, as long as Ukay did not emerge the winner – or even one of the runners-up – at the end of the day. And Salewa was sure she would not.
"Stupid bitch," Ukay said under her breath. "Can you see that I'm sexier than you? They prefer me to you. I'll show you today that you are nothing where I am concerned." Her lips had barely even moved.

On the campuses of Nigerian higher education institutions, especially those in the big cities such as Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, the competition assumes an insane if not sinister dimension as some young ladies pull out all the stops and go all out to vanquish their rivals in a bid to be the most beautiful or the most popular girl – the biggest girl in Nigerian parlance – on campus.
Such a dynamic exists between Salewa, Jaiye and Eucharia, all students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Nigeria. They are three of the most popular female students on not just the UNILAG campus scene or the Lagos higher education institution campus scene, but the entire Nigerian higher education institution scene by virtue of the proliferation of campus magazines that cover all the happenings on higher education institution campuses in the country.
Eucharia – also known as Ukay – absolutely hates the guts of best friends Salewa and Jaiye and lives to prove to them that she is their superior. The feeling however, is mutual as Salewa and Jaiye cannot stand the sight of her.
Given the nature of the relationship between these two parties, a beauty pageant featuring Eucharia and Salewa as contestants is anything but an ordinary beauty pageant. It is a highly spirited battle for the crown.
