Black caraway (Syah Daanehin Persian) belongs to the rununculaceae family. Its aboriginal is in the Mediterranean and is proposed as a blessed seed for its therapeutic characteristics. Black caraway is recognized in various names like Roman coriander, kalonji, black cumin, fennel flower, black seed, etc. Black caraway seeds are recommended to be used for breads as well as vegetables in North India, turkey, Iran and Lebanon. Though it is a bit bitter, the pepper taste in it augments the vegetable dishes of Iran and north India. Black caraway seeds are used in salads, cottage cheese, poultry, pickles, and lamb for its aroma and its excellent feature. Iranians use Black caraway seeds in making breads, Torshis (pickles) and some dishes. North Indians use it in nans, yoghurts, chutneys, dals and curries.
