This SMC double-acting CJ2 Series miniature air cylinder has a compact body, double clevis mounting, and rubber cushioning to absorb kinetic energy and reduce noise during operation. The air cylinder (also called a pneumatic cylinder) has a stainless-steel body and single piston rod to help resist corrosion and tarnishing. The double-acting air cylinder uses airflow through two air ports on opposite ends of the cylinder barrel to push out and retract the piston rod to produce continued movement. Rubber bumpers (cushions) are standard to this series to absorb kinetic energy and to dampen the sound of the piston striking the air cylinder€s end caps, and it has nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) seals to contain air and protect the barrel and piston rod. It has double clevis mounting to secure both ends of the cylinder while still allowing a degree of back and forth motion. The maximum pressure of the pneumatic cylinder is 102 pounds per square inch (psi), and it has a temperature range of 14 to 158 degrees F. This non-repairable air cylinder is suitable for use in light-duty automation applications and in small spaces.

Pneumatic actuators fall into two classes: linear and rotary. Linear actuators move objects in straight lines, while rotary actuators turn objects, or rotate them in varying directions.
