SABIAN 14" Paragon Hi-Hats
Designed in collaboration with Neil Peart - cited as one of the world’s most influential rock drummers since the 1970s - Sabian 14†Paragon Hi-Hats truly live up to their name. Intense and cutting, they are designed with more than enough power for the legendary drummer. Both the medium-weight top and heavy-weight bottom cymbals employ AAX-style pinpoint lathing on top to boost brightness and tighten focus, and AA-style traditional lathing on the bottom for increased clarity and projection. The bells are hand-hammered, which serves to warm and unify the overall sound. It’s an ideal combination that essentially makes heavier cymbals respond like lighter model - they’re much more sensitive to the touch and respond more efficiently. The result is a bright, punchy set of hats with strong pedal “chickâ€, clean stick articulation when played closed, and loud, cutting open sound.
“Neil had a sound in mind,†says Sabian Master Product Specialist Mark Love. To create this dynamic Paragon sound, Sabian blended AAX, HH and AA design elements. Essentially a personal statement from Neil Peart, Paragon is a bold concept created in collaboration with the Sabian vault team.
Designed with RUSH drummer Neil Peart, Paragon cymbals combine the explosive power of AA, the warmth of HH and the wide dynamic range of AAX. Like Peart, they are powerful, bright and extremely musical. Paragon is full-on power, with enough sensitivity to dip down into a lower dynamic range. While the power of Paragon makes it an ideal series for rock drummers, they are more than capable of taking you places you have never been. Paragon is a great adventure.
With its explosive power and incredible dynamic range, Paragon has long been a favourite of some of the most dynamic drummers on the Sabian roster. “
Like all Sabian B20 Cast Cymbals, 14†Paragon Hats begin their life in the Foundry, where a centuries-old family process is used to create the most musical and durable of all cymbal alloys. Inside the Foundry, Sabian metallurgists combine carefully measured amounts of Copper, Tin and Silver, heat it to 2100 degrees Fahrenheit, and pour it into casts. At this stage, it’s hard to believe these castings will eventually become a powerful set of Hi-Hats. But first, they must go on a journey that will take them through the processes of Multi-rolling for intensity, Hammering for tone, Lathing for enhanced response and projection, and a final Aging process in the legendary Sabian Vault for optimum sound. In a sense, it’s a journey that’s only complete when you play the cymbal of your choice - an evolution from idea to reality. It is this process – innovation blended with traditional cymbal-making – that allows Paragon to offer the versatility and flexibility to excel at so many applications.
