With "Romance, Swing, and the Blues" (a 2-CD set), Marcus Roberts introduces a new band - The Modern Jazz Generation - that merges his long-standing trio with Jason Marsalis and Rodney Jordan, and long-term collaborators (Ron Westray, Stephen Riley, and Marcus Printup), with six young guys from a new generation of jazz musicians (Ricardo Pascal, Joe Goldberg, Tissa Khosla, Alphonso Horne, Tim Blackmon, and Corey Wilcox). The multigenerational recording is an original suite of music that is woven together with a set of beautiful melodic themes that trace the highs and lows of romance.
