Cymande, pronounced (sah-mahn-day), was an eight member group hailing from West Indies and Jamaica. They were the first to record a fusion of funk, jazz, soul and reggae. They had a lasting influence on two major movements in music; Dance/Rare Groove, and Hip Hop. Grandmasterflash and Kool Herc dropped Cymande's breaks at South Bronx block parties. Cymande was regularly sampled by many hip hop artists including De La Soul, Biz Markie, The Fugees and MC Solar, etc. Cymande also played the Apollo to raves and toured the USA with Al Green and Mandrill in 1973.
