Reluctant Ralph: The Story of the First Flight of a Baby Osprey
Our story begins with an osprey couple who have migrated from South America to North Carolina for the past six years. They nest in their favorite place which sits right beside a very active soundside area filled with restaurants and boat rentals. There, looking out over the beautiful water, the ospreys - Ricky and Lucy - begin to fix their nest, happy to be enjoying yet another season in the beautiful North Carolina landscape. After they have rebuilt their home, Lucy lays her three multi-colored eggs and takes turn with Ricky waiting anxiously for them to hatch. Two ospreys arrive quickly but the third doesn€t arrive until a few days later. This is Ralph. Ralph is a baby osprey who simply likes to sit in the sunshine, enjoy himself and bask in the comfort of his family. His siblings learn how to fly and to catch fish, but Reluctant Ralph likes the fact that he can sit and get waited on. He€s not a lazy osprey, just reluctant to face the challenges of the world. Unfortunately, when a hurrican arrives and threatens the family€s nest, Reluctant Ralph has to find a way to not only survive, but learn how to fly, and become the osprey that his parents know he can become. "Reluctant Ralph" is not only an entertaining, suspenseful tale but also offers a lot of factual information about ospreys. You will fall in love with Ralph and want to continue reading every book in the series written about him!
