Precision Twist DS 90 Solid Carbide Spotting Drill Bit, Uncoated (Bright) Finish, Round Shank, Spiral Flute, 90 Degree Point Angle, 5/16"
The Precision Twist DS-90 intermediate length bit is a round shank, spotting drill bit made of Carbide with a uncoated (bright) finish and is used for starting a hole. It is suitable for drilling to a depth up to one times the diameter of the drill. The shank diameter is the same as the drill size. Suitable for drilling to a wide variety of metals and synthetic materials with best performance in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, and nickel.
The DS-90 series made of durable carbide material, with a 90-degree conventional point geometry, should only be used to start holes; do not go deeper than the diameter of the drill bit. While shorter than a Jobber length drill bit, the length gives extra reach than a stub length drill bit, while maintaining stability when starting the hole. The bright finish help increase chip flow in soft materials. Spiral flutes act as a passageway for chip extraction from the hole and for coolant to enter the hole. Right hand twist brings chips up and away from the cutting edge.
Drilling, or hole making, is the most common metalworking operation in the world. Twist drill bits are the most common type of drill bit used. Twist drill bits can be used in hand operated drills, standalone drill presses or a machine tool called a lathe, to drill a hole. The flutes of the drill bit act a passageway for chip extraction from the hole and for coolant to enter the hole. These drill bits have a right hand twist that brings the chips up and away from the cutting edge. They are made to DIN 340 industry standards, which ensure that drill bits around the world, confirm to the same specifications.
