The story begins as lion king Mufasa and his wife Queen Sarabi present their new baby cub, Simba, to the animals of the Pride Lands of Africa. As the wise baboon Rafiki holds Simba high in the air, the animals bow to their future king. But Scar, Mufasa s brother, doesn t attend the ceremony. He is angry because he wants to be king. He plots to eliminate Simba to claim the throne.

Scar sends the nasty hyenas to attack the young cub, but Simba escapes. After a devastating family loss, Simba flees the Pride Lands. But Simba soon realizes that it s time to go home and take his rightful place as king. Children will delight in following Simba s action-packed journey from small cub to the Lion King.
