P.T.C. Test Paper, Vial, PTC 100 Strips Genetics Testing Phenylthio Carbamide
PTC Paper has been used widely since its discovery to detect genetic variation in tasting abilities. Phenylthio carbamide (PTC) is a chemical which causes a bitter flavor to some people. This is a genetic variation which normally occurs in a ratio of 75% who can taste PTC versus 25% of those who cannot. It seems related to an enzyme which is produced by cells on the tongue. Though not important for everyday life, this condition might explain why some people are more sensitive to bitter tastes than others.
