Organic Raw Honey, "Bergamot Blossom", Unprocessed, Unheated, Imported from Sicily, Pack of 3 x 30g
Our #1 best seller. Bergamot blossom honey is a rare and sophisticated honey that is practically impossible to find in the US, and even in Italy, most Italians have never had it. That is because bergamot trees are very fussy and only grow around the area of Reggio Calabria where the soil, winds and climate contribute to making healthy, high quality bergamots. Filippo comes down the volcano with his bees in a small truck, he hops on the ferry to cross the straight of Messina to mainland Italy, and then releases the bees in an organic grove of bergamots. At the end of the month, this is the honey he obtains. Because of real estate developers, bergamot groves are more and more threatened, and they may disappear all together in the future. Right now, we are lucky to have this honey. Bergamot is a citrus shaped like a pear, it is larger than a lemon and green-yellow in color. Its rind is squeezed to extract bergamot essence, which is used to flavor earl grey tea and in perfumes. It is not be confused with the wild flower that grows in certain parts of the US, also called bergamot! Bergamot honey is tangy, fruity, floral, heady, and more sophisticated than lemon and orange blossom honeys. It has a hint of mysterious, exotic perfume on the finish, similar to bergamot oil, but very faint.
