Older Than My Old Man Now

When he turned 65, Loudon Wainwright III was older than his father ever was, and it got him thinking, and writing, and singing. In 'Older Than My Old Man Now' he sizes up his own tangled life and family history (and mortality in general) with unflinching candor and humor. Truly a family affair, the project involved contributions from all four of his children - Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Lucy Wainwright Roche and Lexie Kelly Wainwright as well as two of their three mothers, Suzzy Roche and Ritamarie Kelly. Also included are recitations of passages written by his father, the famous LIFE Magazine columnist Loudon Wainwright Jr., and a recording of 'Over The Hill', the only song he ever co-wrote with his first wife, the late great Kate McGarrigle.

'One voice singing a lot about death 'n' decay can be a bit wearing so I brought in other singers to help with the heavy lifting,' says Loudon. The guest duets feature Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Dame Edna Everage, Chris Smither, and Chaim Tannenbaum. Producer Dick Connette, engineer Alex Venguer, and arranger Rob Moose are all back from the Grammy-winning CD set 'High Wide & Handsome'. The song treatments range from basic guitar & vocal to sophisticated string settings, and there's even some swinging funk provided by jazz guitar giant, John Scofield.
