Ola Belle Reed
National Heritage Award winner Ola Belle Reed grew up in the mountains of Ashe County, North Carolina, near neighboring Galax, Virginia. It's an area extremely rich in producing the finest of old-time musicians, and she was among the best. She was also a fine songwriter with a catalog of over 200 songs, including "High on a Mountain" and "The Leading Role." The material on this album ranges from primitive Baptist hymns, to Ola Belle's later compositions - delivered in a near-country and western style - to old-time fiddle tunes and ballads.
