Oh How We Danced / Whale Meat Again
Raven presents two original, classic jim capaldi albums on one cd for the first time: oh how we danced (island, 1972) and whale meat again (island, 1974). Long out of print, these two albums marked the beginnings of a lengthy and successful solo career. While best remembered for his role in traffic - one of the most inventive and fondly remembered brit bands of the psychedelic and progressive eras - capaldi was always a driven and inspired musician capable of creating ebullient and enduring work. Oh how we danced featured muscle shoals musicians david hood, roger hawkins, barry beckett and jimmy johnson on most tracks, plus traffic members steve winwood, chris wood, rick grech, jim gordon and rebop on the joyous 'open your heart'. Free guitarist paul kossoff also features heavily on the blistering 'oh how we danced'. There's a real soulfulness and buoyancy to love songs like 'eve', 'big thirst' and 'love is all you can try'. The smouldering ballad 'don't be a hero' takes a darker turn. Whale meat again yielded his first us hit 'it's all right', the bluesy title track, the soulful 'yellow sun', the gritty 'low rider' and the vibrant 'i've got so much lovin''. The muscle shoals guys and winwood were on hand again. These two original albums on the one disc represent great value for fans of classic early 1970s rock. With superb quality audio, detailed liner notes, colour booklet.
