Northwest Territorial Mint USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Challenge Coin
Named in honor of America's 34th President, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) was commissioned on October 18, 1977. Stretching 1,092 feet in length and displacing 95,000 tons, the Dwight D. Eisenhower is one of the largest warships in the world. Boasting a massive 4.5 acre flight deck, the ship carries 85 combat aircraft and is home to nearly 6,000 officers and crew. Since receiving her commission, the Dwight D. Eisenhower has served with distinction as a vital part of the Navy's Atlantic Fleet, becoming the first aircraft carrier to conduct sustained operations in the Red Sea while supporting Operation Desert Storm in 1991. This coin is dedicated to the outstanding courage and commitment of all those who proudly serve aboard the U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower. The obverse features the bust of the legendary General Eisenhower depicted above the ship named in his honor. Minted on the reverse is a rendering of the official emblem of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.
