The hydroquinone glucoside is a botanically derived compound found in certain plant species, such as bearberry, cranberries, and blueberries. A recent study indicated that Arbutin inhibits melanin synthesis by inhibition of tyrosinase activity. Kojic acid is a by-product in the fermentation process of malting rice for use in the manufacturing of sake, the Japanese rice wine. It has been proven that kojic acid is effective for inhibiting melanin production.
