Moroccan Sintir also called Guembri
african instrument GUEMBRI also called Sintir - $550 © craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap jones at geary (google map) (yahoo map) Hi everyone, My name is Jamal, I started importing african instruments due to the high demand and the lack of companies that provides them in the US. For this posting I'll be presenting to you a professional 3 strings bass instrument (Gembri).I have included a definition of the Guembri as well as video of artists and couple tutorials of l'Maalem Yassir Chadlys' youtube channel, which I found very helpful. The Guembri is also considered the instrument of the future by many artists including Jimi Hendrix, Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin).... The sintir (Arabic: سنØير€Ž), also known as the Guembri (Arabic: الكمبري€Ž), Gimbri or Hejhouj, is a three stringed skin-covered bass plucked lute used by the Gnawa people. It is approximately the size of a guitar, with a body carved from a log and covered on the playing side with camel. The camel skin has the same acoustic function as the membrane on a banjo. The neck is a simple stick with one short and two long goat strings that produce a percussive sound similar to a pizzicato cello or double bass. The Guembri is listed at http://larkinam.com/MiddleEasternStrings.html for $625 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sintir http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2bAIb9v7kY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx3PEdlpcMc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_qThG8fUck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsGgkt2OpSQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4_PkFgdDGk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeCDlYxwPBU ( sorry the video is in French) http://worldmusiccentral.org/2005/10/28/robert-plant-and-nuru-kane-closing-womex-conference/
