Mitutoyo 176-808A Toolmaker's Microscope with Digimatic Micrometer Heads, 30X Magnification

Mitutoyo 176-808A compound toolmaker€s microscope has a monocular viewing head, two digimatic micrometer heads, Tungsten illumination, a 6 x 6 inch stage, a 15X eyepiece with a built-in vernier protractor, and total magnification of 30X. This microscope enhances object or image resolution, and is commonly used for measuring dimensions and angles of machined metals, examining the shape of screw threads and gear teeth, measuring stepped dimensions, and inspecting matching templates.

The compact 176-808A microscope features two digimatic micrometer heads with 0.00005€/0.001 mm resolution to display LCD readout and provide statistical process control (SPC) output. It has diopter adjustment capabilities to show specific magnification power. The monocular viewing head has a 30-degree depression angle, with a 90-degree broken cross-hair reticle, erect image display, and is diopter adjustable. The eyepiece protractor has a 1-degree graduation range, 360-degree protractor range, and minimum reading by vernier of 6 feet. . This microscope has a 15X eyepiece magnifier with a built-in vernier protractor, which is a secondary scale that is used to indicate where measurement lies when it is in between two of the marks on the main scale. An angle dial controls angle measurement. An adjustable cross-hair reticle helps to bring the measuring surface into focus, and to position the workpiece. A long vertical working distance (67 mm) and an erecting image improve operability. This microscope provides both reflected and transmitted illumination for opaque, translucent, and transparent viewing. Its 24V, 2W Tungsten bulbs provide simultaneous use of contour illumination with green filter for viewing capabilities, and oblique surface illumination with a white filter. It has angle and orientation adjustment capabilities. The compact unit has a glass, 6 x 6 inch XY stage that supports a wide travel range (2 x 2 inches) for effective measurement.

The microscope has coaxial coarse- and fine-focus adjustment controls located within a single knob. A leaf spring mechanism assists with glass stage removal and replacement. In addition to the objective lens and eyepiece, the microscope comes with a lens cap, a cross-hair line receptacle, two micrometer heads, a green filter, a white filter, a spare lamp and fuse, a mounting screw, a reticle setting screw, a bulb setter, an Allen key, a dust cover, and a six-foot power cord.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying viewing abilities. A trinocular eyepiece is used to output digital images to an internal or external device such as a camera or monitor. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also use LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963, which is headquartered in Aurora, IL.
