In Volume Four, The Halls of the Mountain King, †dwe carries messages from the King of Albion to the †lvish Mountain King, and finds that he is expected. He forms an attachment to the King's daughter, whom he refers to as Sweordberan. While in the Halls, he comes of age, and comes into his own, receiving a sword and shield, both of ominous portent. He also finds the answer to a thing that has been puzzling him, since his time in Pandemonium; the timing of eclipses.

Volume Four is some 11,400 words long.
Edition 2 contains some minor changes, but no change in the plot.
