Shimmertails fit true to size, and are made of spandex and polyester, so the costume will stretch long and wide on the waist by and inch. the fins are the same size except the 2/4 size fin. It is half the size. Size 2/4: Length 21 1/4, Waist measurement around stretches from 19-21 inches. . The fin on a 2/4 is half the size of a 5/6. Go to Shimmertail.com, about page, to see pictures. If you have a large 4 yr old, I recommend the 5/6. Size 5/6: Length 28 inches, Waist measurement around is 19-27 inches Size 7/8: Length 30 inches, Waist measurement around is 23-29 inches Size 9/10: length 32 inches, Waist measurement around is 23-31 inches If you are a petite 9/10 yr old I recommend the 7/8 size. Size 11/16: Length 36 1/4 inches, Waist measurement around is 24-36 inches. Tolerance +/- 1/4 inch REMOVE the fin for walking, but slide it on for fantastic swimming! Put it on right next to the pool to avoid scratching the costume on the hard ground. Warning: To reduce the risk of death by drowning, Shimmertail costumes must be worn with a life jacket at all times. To reduce the risk of falling, put the costume on at the edge of the pool by sliding feet into the foot straps, then pull up the costume. Always use with adult supervision. Handling care: Remove fin by folding and pulling out. Machine was cold, inside out. Hang dry. Do not use fabric softeners, bleach or iron. To avoid costume wear: Do not scrape mermaid costume across the cement by the pool. Put it on at the edge of the pool then swim. To wear: Put on like putting on tights. Roll fabric down to the ankles, insert feet into fin straps, then pull up to your waist. Its best to put it on right next to the pool, then slide into the water with it. Always swim with adult supervision.
